Rightware supports interoperability of Kanzi UI and Automotive Grade Linux on DENSO Inter-Display Protocol Showcase Demonstrator
DERESDEN, October 18, 2017 – Rightware has provided support for an automotive HMI solution integrating graphics from an in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) console running Automotive Grade Linux (AGL) with a digital instrument cluster and a head-up display (HUD) powered by Kanzi. This support of the AGL Inter-Display Protocol highlights the extensibility of the Kanzi development tools and UI framework, and the ease with which Kanzi can integrate applications and services from any IVI platform or ecosystems into the safety-critical cluster in a next-gen digital cockpit.
At the AGL All Members Meeting today, two use cases were demonstrated. In the first, navigation and media content is streamed in video format from the IVI system to a cluster and HUD application delivered by Rightware. This video content can be freely displayed on either display, or even rendered onto 3D objects. In the second use case, an animated 3D vehicle is manipulated by the driver on the cluster and HUD, and is moved seamlessly between these two displays. The result adds rich, interactive visual elements to the integrated user experience across all three displays.

Kanzi is designed for maximum interoperability with leading automotive platforms and operating systems. The Kanzi workflow streamlines the development process, allowing UI design, prototyping, and development with simulated hardware, as well as integration onto target hardware, all within a single Kanzi project. In this implementation, the AGL IVI distribution runs on an Intel Apollo Lake platform, and the Kanzi cluster and HUD UI application runs on an RTOS-based Intel Apollo Lake platform.
